The Importance of Locus of Control
Iranian "Bring Your Own Drone" Edition
It’s been a strange weekend, so I’m going to keep this one short.
For those of you who don’t know or haven’t paid attention, Iran attacked Israel, and everyone’s been screaming World War 3 all day long.

This meme captures the mood perfectly as an American.
I’ve seen so many different takes on the situation.
Mostly shitty ones.
Many of these views are based on fear, uncertainty, and doubt, or ‘F.U.D.’
There’s a lot of it out there in the social media world.
For example, people on both sides of the political aisle make their living by promoting content loaded with F.U.D.
Financial gurus and analysts LOVE to promote this content for several reasons, most notably by trying to influence markets.
This content is designed to scare the shit out of you by pointing fingers, creating a big bad enemy, inducing scarcity, and, most importantly, putting the security of the future into doubt.
And time and time again, people fall for it without failure.
It’s part of the human condition - It’s happened to me plenty of times.
THE most effective way to bypass these mental midgets trying to sell fear is to harness an internal locus of control.
What is an internal ‘locus of control’?
First, we have to start with what a locus of control is.
A locus of control is the degree to which people believe they, or external forces, control the outcomes in their lives.
Someone who has an external locus of control is a person who believes nothing is ever their fault.
Everything happens TO them.
Poor them.
Life is so hard.
Wah, wah, wah.
Those people fucking suck.
A person with an internal locus of control realizes they can always do better.
If something happens TO them, they don’t blame the offending party.
They would instead blame themselves for being in that situation in the first place.
It’s a mindset and belief system that cultivates ultimate responsibility.
You are responsible for your station in life.
Harnessing an internal locus of control is also a place for recognizing your lack of influence on external events.
You have no control.
So, let’s say something outrageous happens, like Iran attacking Israel. Do you live in the Middle East? If you’re reading this newsletter, the chances you do are incredibly slim. If you have family in the region, check on them. Make sure they’re okay and stay in touch.
That’s realistically the most you can do.
Otherwise, go on about your day.
Ignore the fear.
Ignore the uncertainty.
Ignore the doubt.
They’ve been yelling about World War 3 starting for decades, and this time is no different. Be unfazed.
Adopt an internal locus of control.
Remember, you have no control over those events, so don’t waste your time on them.

Be like Mac here.
I have a ballgame to catch with the lady tomorrow.
Enjoy your Sunday.
(P.S. I was asked to be a Godfather, so expect many Vito Corleone memes in the future)
(P.P.S. The Fallout T.V. show looks interesting)
